Plant Visits

Post-conference tours will include a choice between:

Day Trip 1: Impala No.16 and No.17 Shafts
Impala's No. 17 Shaft, at Impala Platinum Rustenburg operation was established to replace production from its older shafts that are nearing the end of their productive life. No. 17 Shaft project comprises a main shaft, ventilation shaft, refrigeration plant, railway line, compressed air facility, a workshop and administration buildings. No. 17 Shaft is located adjacent and north of No. 16 Shaft project with similar infrastructure except for the refrigeration shaft. No. 16 Shaft concrete head gear, at 108 metres high, is the tallest concrete head gear in the world.
A maximum of 20 delegates will be accommodated.

Day Trip 2: Anglo Platinum's Mogalakwena concentrator and open-pit operations
Rustenburg Platinum Mines Limited-Mogalakwena Section is a highly mechanized and technology-driven open-pit platinum mine in the Limpopo Province, approximately 35 km north-west of the town of Mokopane. A new addition to this operation has been the Mogalakwena concentrator, which treats Platreef ore.
A maximum of 40 delegates will be accommodated.

Day Trip 3: Visit to Rustenburg Base Metals Refinery
The visit will be to Anglo Platinum's Rustenburg Base Metals Refinery facilities.
A maximum of 20 delegates will be accommodated.

Day Trip 4: Visit to Anglo Platinum's converting process and Waterval smelter in Rustenburg
The visit will be to Anglo Platinum's Converting Process and Waterval Smelter in Rustenburg.
A maximum of 40 delegates will be accommodated.


Please note that all tours are subject to a minimum number of participants. Should this not be achieved, the organisers reserve the right to cancel the tour. All bookings will be handled on a 'first-come first-served' basis. Please be so kind as to indicate a second and third choice of visit in order to avoid disappointment. The cost is R250 per technical visit. Bus transport leaves from and returns to Sun City.
